(eng follows)Η κυβέρνηση, με πρώτους τους υπουργούς Πάλμα και Χαρτσιώτη, προτάσσει ψέματα επί ψεμάτων για να μην παραδεχτεί ότι οι δικές της ενέργειες έχουν στοιχίσει τη ζωή σε 7 άτομα ενώ άλλα πολλά αγνοούνται χωρίς να υπάρχει ελπίδα ότι θα βρεθούν εν ζωή. Καταρρίπτοντας τα ψέματα: 1. Tη Δευτέρα 17 Μαρτίου δηλώνει ότι η βάρκα βρέθηκε τυχαία. Την επόμενη μέρα παραδέχεται ότι οι αρχές ήξεραν για την ύπαρξη της βάρκας από την Κυριακή, 16 Μάρτη. 2. Δηλώνει ότι δεν έγιναν τα οποιαδήποτε pushback τις προηγούμενες μέρες. Η Ύπατη Αρμοστεία του ΟΗΕ για τους πρόσφυγες (UNHCR) με επίσημη ανακοίνωση επιβεβαιώνει ότι έγιναν pushback σε τουλάχιστον τρεις βάρκες με περίπου 80 πρόσφυγες από τη Συρία στις 13-14 Μαρτίου. 3. Στοχοποιεί, όπως και οι προηγούμενοι, τη UNHCR ότι δήθεν υπερβάλλει και απαξιώνει άλλες μη κυβερνητικές οργανώσεις που ανέδειξαν τα pushbacks, προσπαθώντας να τις παρουσιάσει ως αναξιόπιστες. H διενέργεια pushbacks από την ΚΔ από το 2020 και μετά είναι καταγεγραμμένη με σωρεία δεδομένων και από καταδικαστική απόφαση του ΕΔΑΔ. 4. Εν τέλει παραδέχεται ότι υπήρξε «περιστατικό» την 13-14 Μαρτίου αλλά ότι αυτό έγινε έξω από τα χωρικά ύδατα της Κύπρου, και άρα δεν είναι παράνομο. Σε κάθε περίπτωση, τα κράτη έχουν υποχρέωση παροχής βοήθειας και διάσωσης ασχέτως αν το σκάφος βρίσκεται ή όχι στα χωρικά τους ύδατα. 5. Διασύρει τον δημοσιογράφο Κώστα Κωνσταντίνου με ψευδείς ισχυρισμούς ότι το υλικό που αποδεικνύει τη διενέργεια pushback και που ο ίδιος έφερε στη δημοσιότητα είναι αναληθές. Έχει αποδειχθεί ότι το υλικό είναι αξιόπιστο. ——– There is no end to the government’s lies in its attempt to avoid admitting that its own actions have cost the lives of 7 people, while many others are still missing with no real hope of being found alive. Busting the lies: On Monday, March 17, the government claims that the sinking boat was found by chance. The next day, it admits that the authorities knew about the boat’s existence since Sunday, March 16. The government claims that no pushbacks were carried out in the preceding days. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) officially confirms that pushbacks of at least three boats carrying around 80 refugees from Syria took place between March 13-14. Like previous governments, it targets the UNHCR, accusing it of exaggerating and undermining other non-governmental organizations that brought to light the pushbacks, attempting to portray them as unreliable. That the Republic of Cyprus has been carrying out pushbacks from 2020 onwards is well documented and is confirmed by a relevant judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Finally, the government admits that there was an “incident” on March 13-14, but that it occurred outside of Cyprus’ territorial waters, and therefore, it had not been illegal. In any case, states have an obligation to provide assistance and to rescue boats in distress regardless of whether they are inside or outside their territorial waters. The government attempts to discredit journalist Kostas Konstantinou with false claims that the evidence he brought to light proving the occurrence of pushbacks is false. The material has been proven to be reliable.
