Πενήντα χρόνια μετά, ο «Οριενταλισμός» παραμένει επίκαιρος

Στες 31 του Μάη εσυναχτήκαμεν στο Γιάλλα να συζητήσουμεν για έναν που τα πιο επιδραστικά βιβλία του 20ού αιώνα, τον Οριενταλισμόν του Έντουαρντ Σαΐντ. Σχεδόν πεήντα χρόνια μετά την δημοσίευσην του βιβλίου, η επανέκδοση της ελληνικής μετάφρασης δια μας την ευκαιρίαν να κατανοήσουμεν την σημερινήν συγκυρίαν στην Μέσην Ανατολήν μέσα που τον διεισδητικόν φακόν του Σαΐντ. Την κουβένταν εσυντόνισεν η Μαρία Χρυσάνθου, τζ̆αι εμιλήσαν ο Αντώνης Μπαλασόπουλος τζ̆αι ο Αντώνης Χατζ̆ηκυριάκου. Ακολουθούν τα κείμενα των ομιλιών τους.

Thursday 26th October, 19:30 @Social Space Kaymakkin In 1976, political thinker and literary analyst Edward Said arrived in Nicosia, to take part in a conference on the rights of small nations. He was representing Palestine.  On Thursday the 26th at 19.30 we commemorate the work of Edward Said on Palestinian liberation through a screening of his documentary “The Shadow of the West,” followed by a discussion.  Entry to Social Space Kaymakkin is always free, but we will be collecting donations to provide direct aid on the ground in Gaza.  Invoking the 1976 conference of small nations, we reject the mechanisms of western imperialism.
