Through the Right to Coast Tour in Iskele/Trikomo on 2 June, we had the chance to see and discuss the developments taking place at the coast and their social and environmental consequences. The visit was a grim follow-up to the Larnaca Tour. Realising the extend of the destruction and the speed with which construction proceeds, not only in Iskele/Trikomo but also in other areas both north and south of the divide, was alarming.

Despite of the grimness, however, it was valuable to discuss the common concerns about the future of the coast with a group of people from diverse backgrounds that shared an understanding of the coast as a commons. It was also important to discuss about potential common paths of action (and reaction) that consider the coastline of the island as a whole and that envision alternative paths for its (and our) future.

We will be following up with more actions, advocating for and defending the right to the coast!
